Would Kossacks vote for a Libertarian?

A political website called Third Party Watch has "An Open Letter to American Conservatives" from Libertarian presidential candidate George Phillies, who wants reactionary wingnuts to support his campaign to keep Bob Barr from winning the Libertarian Party nomination:

How many conservative political parties does America need? Aren’t Republican and Constitution enough? Do you want Bob Barr to split the conservative vote even more?
That answer was "NO!", wasn’t it?

Fortunately, you can do something about Barr. You have a strategic option. Barr has a real libertarian opponent. Me. If I beat Barr at the Libertarian Party convention, he will not be the nominee, and one of your right-wing flanks is safe.

Canny conservatives will ask: If I help a Libertarian, won’t that hurt us in the fall? That’s a fair question. You don’t want to poison your own well.

Consider some facts. You decide.

I’m a real Libertarian. I’m anti-war, pro-choice, unimpressed by the war on drugs, and an ACLU activist. To read more on my campaign: http://ChooseGeorge.Org.

My credentials will draw votes from liberals, the people who inhabit Daily Kos, not good conservatives.

Do you want Bob Barr to split the conservative vote? It’s your choice.

On a personal note I worked with George Phillies on several Libertarian campaigns some years ago.  He is a dedicated philosophical libertarian activist, and knowing him as I do there is no way he'll roll over for the likes of Bob Barr.  In fact, I can't imagine most of the activists I've worked with in the past being taken in by Barr's opportunistic political deathbed conversion to libertarianism.  There are always a few people, especially party apparatchiks, who like the idea of a "celebrity" candidate to draw attention to the party, bring in new members and, most importantly, more money to pay the rent, phone bills and other expenses.  In New Jersey where I live we had a Senate race and among those considering the Libertarian nomination was controversial radio talk show host Bob Grant.  A few activists thought it would be neat to have a celebrity like Bob Grant, despite his notoriety, leading our ticket.  However, myself and other activists called Bob on the air to challenge his decidedly unlibertarian views on issues like immigration, gun control and civil liberties.  Grant changed his mind about running as a Libertarian and eventually withdrew from the race altogether.

The only way I see Bob Barr getting the Libertarian nod would be for him the pack the convention with new members who are loyal to his candidacy.  However, he doesn't have the support base Pat Buchanan had when he hijacked Ross Perot's Reform Party in 2000, or the fanatical following Alan Keyes has to take over the Constitution Party at their convention next week.  Even if Barr is successful I expect he'll split the party with the same effect Buchanan had on the Reform Party.  Despite $20 million in public funding Buchanan managed only about one percent of the vote, though he evidently took enough votes away from Al Gore in Florida's Palm Beach County to swing that state to Bush.
